Subclass 820

With this visa, individuals have the opportunity to:

  • - Stay in Australia
  • - Work in Australia
  • - Study in Australia
  • - Travel to and from Australia as many times as desired
  • - Eligible individuals can attend free English language classes provided by the Adult Migrant English Program
  • - Apply for access to Australia's public health care scheme, Medicare.

Include family members:

It is possible to include family members in the application. Family members must and should meet the health and character requirements of Australia. If family members are not coming to Australia, they may still have to meet the health and character requirements. Dependent children can be added to the application after it has been lodged but before the temporary visa is decided upon.

Prospective Marriage visa holders:

Prospective Marriage visa holders can include family members as part of their application, but they cannot add them after submitting their application.

Apply for this visa & Your Obligations:

To apply for this visa, you must be present in Australia along with your family members who are applying with you. It is important for you and your family to meet all visa conditions and follow Australian laws.

Adequate health insurance:

Depending on your situation, you may be eligible for Australia's public healthcare system, Medicare, while waiting for a decision on your visa application. However, if you are not eligible for Medicare, we strongly recommend getting an adequate health insurance plan to cover unexpected medical expenses while in Australia.

Reciprocal healthcare agreements:

Australia has reciprocal healthcare agreements with a few of the countries.

  • Subclass 801

    With this visa, you can enjoy a range of benefits as a permanent resident in Australia. This includes the ability to work and study in the country, access to Medicare, and the option to sponsor your family members to come to Australia. You can also travel to and from Australia without any restrictions. In addition, if you are eligible, you can take advantage of free English language classes provided by the Adult Migrant English Program and apply for Australian citizenship.


    Your obligations

    It is important to note that you and your family members must adhere to all visa conditions and comply with Australian laws.


    Travel on this visa:

    When granted this visa, you are allowed to travel to and from Australia as many times as you wish for a period of five years. However, this is only valid as long as the travel facility on your visa remains valid. If you wish to travel beyond the initial five-year period, you will need to apply for and receive a Resident Return (RRV) in order to re-enter Australia as a permanent resident.


    Include family members:

    You may include your dependent child in your application for a temporary Partner visa (subclass 820), but you cannot add any family members after you have been granted the permanent Partner visa (subclass 801).


  • Subclass 100

    This visa allows you to stay, work, study, and travel to and from Australia as many times as you want. If you are eligible, you can also attend free English language classes provided by the Adult Migrant English Program and apply for access to Australia's public health care scheme, Medicare.


    Include family members:

    You can include family members in your application either when you lodge your visa application or add a dependent child after you lodge your application but before your temporary visa is decided. Family members must and should meet the health and character requirements and be outside of Australia. Family members who are not coming to Australia might also have to meet the health and character requirements of Australia.


    Apply for this visa:

    You and any family members or dependent children applying with you must be outside of Australia when you apply for this visa.


    Your obligations:

    As a visa holder, it is important that you and your family members meet all visa conditions and follow Australian laws. One such condition is entering Australia before the date specified in your grant letter, which is usually set at 12 months from the date of the visa grant.


    Adequate health insurance:

    Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for Medicare, Australia's public health care system, while awaiting a decision on your visa application. However, if you are not eligible, we strongly recommend that you obtain adequate health insurance to cover any unforeseen medical treatment you may need while in Australia. This will limit your financial liability.


    Reciprocal healthcare agreements:

    If your home country has a reciprocal healthcare agreement with Australia, you may be able to access certain healthcare services during your stay.


  • Subclass 309

    With this visa, you can enjoy permanent residency in Australia and all the benefits that come with it. You are free to work, study, and access the public healthcare system, Medicare. Additionally, you can sponsor your family members to join you in Australia and travel to and from the country. If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can also attend free English language classes through the Adult Migrant English Program and apply for Australian citizenship.


    Include family members:

    When applying for a temporary Partner visa (subclass 309), you have the option of including family members in your application. However, you cannot add any family members after the permanent Partner visa (subclass 100) has been granted. If you have a dependent child who does not hold a subclass 309 visa, you can add them to your application before the decision on your permanent visa application has been made. Your child must hold a Dependent Child visa (subclass 445).


    Apply for this visa:

    You and any family members or dependent children applying with you must be outside of Australia when you apply for this visa.
